Kimberley Walsh column: Hanging with Princess Cheryl Cole
THE royal wedding was so emotional! Cheryl and I were at my house with a few friends and family drinking champagne and eating cake while watching it on the TV and we were all so moved. I was impressed at how composed Kate and William seemed, considering the pressure they were under!
I thought Kate looked gorgeous. Her dress was the right balance – feminine and elegant without being too sexy or fashion-forward. While the bride nailed the look, I thought the hats that the likes of Princess Eugenie and Beatrice wore were very odd perched on the front of their foreheads. It was like a new craze for the royal wedding, everyone wore them like that, but it looked bizarre to me!
Ellie Goulding got lucky singing at the reception, that’s an amazing gig to get! I was hoping they’d throw someone like Rihanna in the mix too to get the party started, although her performance might have shocked the Queen!
Kimberley Walsh acted as a birthing partner for her elder sister as she became an aunt for the first time.
She was by her sister Sally’s side as she welcomed a baby boy called Billy, and although she admits she is delighted with the new arrival, seeing her sibling go through labour has put her off having children of her own!
She writes in her column for OK! magazine, “Great news – I’m an auntie! Congratulations to my sister Sally, who gave birth to a baby boy called Billy… I was at the birth and it was the most amazing thing I’ve seen…
“It’s hard to watch someone that close to you going through that much pain. I don’t think her husband and I were the best birthing partners, but we tried to keep her as calm as possible… I think the whole thing has put me off having babies for a few years, though – being Auntie Kimberley will do for now!”
Kimberley Walsh column: Not as flawless as she looks!
Justin’s birthday was over the weekend so I got him some golf stuff and we went for a romantic meal – we had a few drinks but our days of raving are over! We are moving into our new home this weekend – we’ve been in our flat for six years and we’ve had some raucous parties on our roof terrace, so it does feel sad to leave, but change is exciting.
I had to do a shoot last week in which they were going for a wet and sexy look, but the reality was I spent all day in a studio with some poor fella standing on a ladder chucking buckets of water over me! It was fun, although I am quite critical of photos of myself – I’d never look at myself and think, yeah I look good!
I don’t mind a little airbrushing, but in the past my body shape has been completely altered so I’ve asked for it to be changed back – I can’t be proud of pictures if they’re blatantly not me! But I’m grateful for the odd bit of skin smoothing, just as long as readers know it’s not the reality when they look in magazines!
Steve Jones and I co-hosted The Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success Awards last week, which was fun. Cheryl was also presenting an award so we had a quick catch-up. She looks so lovely and sun-kissed fresh back from LA. We were in the line-up and Prince Charles said to us: ‘So we’ve got two of you here today!’ It was funny that he even knew that we were part of Girls Aloud, he knows his stuff!
It was scary presenting because we had the prince sitting right beside us so the pressure was on, but we threw in a few jokes about the royal wedding which luckily he laughed at! When you meet him he’s so relaxed and warm that it makes you forget those formalities. I was probably way too overfriendly because we were chatting away like we were on first-name terms! I really like him, you get a real sense of who he is – that’s important when you meet someone so powerful, he’s our future king, it’s crazy! I’ve met him three times now, so I’d like to have kissed him to greet him, but it might have overstepped the mark!
I remember Geri Halliwell pinched his bum when the Spice Girls met him but I wouldn’t do that – there’s a certain level of respect and etiquette, and I couldn’t do that in case I offended him!
LAST week I met up with Fearne Cotton – we’ve stayed in touch since we trekked Mount Kilimanjaro together and she had a new clothing range for very.co.uk so I popped along to show my support. Keith Lemon was there – he’s a right cheeky bugger! But he’s convinced me to go on Celebrity Juice this week, so tune in this Thursday to see that.
I know he’s going to be rude and crude but I’m prepared for it and I’m not too worried! Justin’s going to come and watch and so was my sister, Sally, but she’s due to give birth soon, so I think she might give it a miss just in case she goes into labour in the studio! I’m one of her birthing partners so I’ve spent a lot of time with her recently, although I haven’t been to any antenatal classes, which is a bit worrying – when it comes to the birth I think I’m going to be useless!
I’ve had a few good nights out on the town recently for friends’ birthdays. I did have a few drinks but I find it hard to let loose as there are always paps waiting! When I was younger I didn’t really care, but as I’ve got older I don’t really want to see pictures of me looking worse for wear in the papers!
Kimberley says Girls Aloud have patched things up with Nadine
KIMBERLEY Walsh has set the record straight to OK! Magazine about that Girls Aloud vs Nadine Coyle rift.
Girls Aloud fans were left in a panic last year when Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts, Cheryl Cole and Sarah Harding found themselves caught up in a very public row with fifth member Nadine Coyle.
But according to Kimberley, the group have settled their differences and will hopefully be celebrating Nadine’s recent engagement together.
In an exclusive interview in this week’s OK! Magazine, we asked Kimberley if everything is alright with Nadine now, and she told us (with a sigh): “Yeah, it is. It really is. I’m kind of sad that it got to this stage where we have to clear everything up and talk about the rumours.
“She moved away to Los Angeles years ago, and it naturally distanced her from all the things we are doing here. The four of us go out more with each other, because we are over here and Nadine is over there.
“But she is still very much a part of the group and there’s not an issue on our part. We have shared so much together, the five of us. I don’t think we will ever lose that bond.”
Kimberley says she can’t wait to celebrate Nadine’s engagement when she’s next in the UK.
She added: “We had been in touch with Nadine before the engagement. It’s just that things got blown out of proportion. Something was said and then all these rumours grew from that.
“She’s not been back over for a while so I think when she is next over we probably need to do a big celebration for her and Sarah’s engagements.
“Hopefully Cheryl will be around too and Nicola. It’s just tying everybody down at the same time. Lovely news like that always brings you closer together.”
But any fans hoping for a Girls Aloud reunion this year will have to wait a little longer, as Kimberley told us it’s more likely to happen in 2012, saying: “I think it will be a rush to get together sooner.”

Kimberley Walsh has criticised Liz Hurley and Shane Warne’s Twitter flirtation and subsequent confirmation of the breakdown of their marriages.
Writing in her OK column, the Girls Aloud singer questioned why the couple felt the need to exchange messages in a public forum.
Walsh said: “Flirty tweets between Elizabeth Hurley and Shane Warne have been published in the papers. I really have no idea why you’d tweet something that can be read by others instead of texting them!
“Why do you want the whole world to know things that should be kept between the two of you? It must be hard for their former partners, because no matter what the situation, you don’t want to know things like that.”
It was reported this weekend that Hurley has ended her relationship with Warne, after discovering that he was pursuing another woman at the same time.
Cheryl Cole has revealed that her new year’s resolution is to improve her skin-care regime.
The 27-year-old X-Factor judge admitted that after a wild night out, she often forgets to take her make-up off and wakes up to find it caked all over her bed linen.
She told OK! Magazine, ‘You know you’ve had a big night when you wake up and your pillow is covered in make-up. I’ve fallen asleep in my make-up a few times and I don’t like it. I don’t like how it makes me feel. My new year’s resolution is to make sure I take it off before bed.’
She added that if she could have one wish, it would be for her hair to never need styling again.
‘I’d ask for permanently blow-dried hair if a genie offered me a wish on New Year’s Eve,’ she said. ‘I’d wake up in the morning and wouldn’t even need to wash it. And I could blink and change it to whatever style I wanted.’
