Girls Aloud for London Olympic gig?
Girls Aloud may be marking their 10th anniversary with a concert during London’s 2012 Olympics, it’s been reported.
Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle are apparently in talks to appear at a landmark gig at the O2 Arena, the Sun reports.
Coldplay and The Rolling Stones have also been mooted as acts on the bill.
A source said: “The girls are getting very excited. The promoters are only looking to book massive, show-stopping acts, which they would be perfect for.”
Although Cheryl has been lined up to appear as a judge on the US version of The X Factor, even she would like to play the Olympics gig, reportedly, because it will be after her judging duties are over.
Her debut single with Girls Aloud effortlessly sailed into the number spot days after being released and stayed there for a month.
But Nicola Roberts also knows just how hard it can be to be taken seriously as a new pop act.
So the pop star decided to show some girl band camaraderie as she paid a visit to The Saturdays as they gave one last push to try and achieve their first ever number one this weekend.
Nicola, 24, was snapped outside the offices of Polydor Records, The Saturday’s record label yesterday, and beamed for the cameras as she arrived.
She looked chic and trendy in her skinny jeans, t-bar red patent heels and tartan blazer, and clutched her Blackberry phone and oversized handbag.
Despite the miserable wet weather, Nicola wore big black sunglasses as she made her way inside the offices in central London.
Nicola was there to offer some morale support to The Saturdays as they wait with baited breath to see if their new single Missing You manages to land that coveted number one spot in the singles charts this Sunday.
She may have also been there for Girls Aloud as they too are signed to Polydor and also share the same PR as The Saturdays.
For a band who live in London and have played there on many occasions, you’d have thought that Girls Aloud would know the city like the back of their hands.
But in a big town it’s easy to lose your sense of direction, as Kimberley Walsh discovered this weekend.
The girl band member looked around her in bewilderment as she left her hotel in central London this weekend.
Walsh, 29, and her assistant spent a few minutes standing around aimlessly, looking in both directions as they left the Sanderson Hotel.
Having concluded that they had no idea where they were going, it was down to a helpful local to show them the way.
Kimberley was snapped stopping to ask a restaurant owner directions, who gladly obliged.
She then laughed as she realised where she was going as she and her assistant headed off in the right direction.
Kimberley is still enjoying Girls Aloud’s current hiatus and has been trying to get into TV presenting while the other four also pursue solo projects
Cheryl Cole arrives at X Factor auditions in a helicopter
On last year’s X Factor, Cheryl Cole experimented with a variety of looks in a style battle with fellow judge Dannii Minogue.
But as she arrived via helicopter to the latest round of auditions in London today, Cole found fashion inspiration from an unlikely source – Tom Cruise in Top Gun.
Perhaps in a bid to channel aviator-style as she enjoyed the helicopter flight, the 26-year-old looked ready to join the Air Force in her leather jacket and a pair of aviator shades.
Her black and white ensemble was a far cry from the more feminine outfit she sported at the auditions earlier this week, which saw her team an orange shift dress with the same pair of Christian Louboutin dogtooth heels.
Today marks their third or four days at the London auditions, before heading to Dublin next week, before Cardiff on 2 July and Manchester from 9-11 July.
Cheryl sports a dazzling smile and dress at London auditions
After spending a whirlwind getaway with Derek Hough in Tanzania, Cheryl Cole jetted back to Britain this morning and went straight to work beaming a megawatt smile.
As she arrived for X Factor’s London auditions in a tangerine dress and houndstooth heels, the 26-year-old couldn’t wipe the cheeky grin off her face, leaving everyone pondering what she exactly got up to with the dancer in Africa.
But as she prepared for auditions with her fellow X Factor judges, the talent show’s bosses were desperate to avoid a World Cup clash.
Realisation struck ITV over the weekend that they filming for Wednesday’s auditions coincides with England’s crucial Group C qualifier. Kick-off for the match against Slovenia is at 3pm, while audience members need to be seated for the X Factor at 2pm and shooting won’t finish until 5pm. The predicament has terrified X Factor bosses, who fear their audience will ditch the show in order to watch the match.
They have even gone so far as begging audience members to attend the auditions with a letter saying: ‘The X Factor auditions will continue as planned. Choose Dermot and Simon over our boys in South Africa.’ Letters were sent to 5,000 ticket-holders and added: ‘The judges and contestants are ready. All we wait for now are you, the audience’, The Sun reported.
Show bosses have assured fans that they will keep the audience up to date on scores from the match in breaks between filming.
But will that be enough to lure England fans away from the football and into the X Factor auditions?
At least the news didn’t seem to faze Chezza, who was still beaming from her vacation.
Whatever went on between the Girls Aloud star and Hough, it has certainly put the spring back into Cheryl’s step and it was the happiest she’d looked in months, following her split from Ashley Cole.
With temperatures soaring, you’d be forgiven for peeling off the layers and pulling on your summer shorts instead.
But when Sarah Harding’s boyfriend Tom Crane hit a London night club with the Girls Aloud star last night, he seemed to have forgotten to get dressed up for the occasion.
While Sarah looked elegant in an off the shoulder maxi dress complete with silver heels, Tom looked like he had come straight from the garden in a pair of fraying cut-off denim shorts.
But it seems Sarah was not too bothered by her boyfriend’s casual look as she was pictured grinning and holding hands with Tom as she left Kanaloa night club.
Tom’s self-imposed informal dress code was enhanced by his navy shirt, which hung loosely down his front and a pair of navy deck shoes, which he wore without socks.
The Girls Aloud star, meanwhile, looked stunning in a multi-coloured floor-length dress which was split on one side up to her thigh, revealing her tanned and toned legs.
And having just returned from sun-drenched Cannes, it’s no wonder Sarah chose to bare just a little of her freshly-tanned flesh.
