Nicola Roberts joins Sainsbury’s Super Saturday gig line up
Top pop acts join existing line-up for the event that marks one year to go until the London 2012 Paralympic Games
Sainsbury’s today announced the addition of four more top pop acts to the line up for Sainsbury’s Super Saturday – the family event taking place on Clapham Common on the 10 September in support of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Pixie Lott, Sugababes, Nicola Roberts and Olly Murs will be joining a hugely popular line up that already features Taio Cruz, The Saturdays and Chipmunk, for the event that marks one year to go until the Paralympic Games and is set to be the ultimate family day out.
Those attending the day-long festival will be able to get into the spirit of things by not only viewing Paralympic sport demonstrations but also trying their hand at select sports on site. Coached by some of the inspiring Team GB Paralympic athletes, such as wheelchair tennis star Louise Hunt and double Paralympic gold medal-winning swimmer Ellie Simmonds, revellers can try their hand at Goal Ball, wheelchair tennis and wheelchair basketball – with more sports to be announced.
Other fun-filled family activities available on the day include face painting, Zorbing, a bouncy castle, bungee trampolines and an inflatable obstacle course – all included as part of the ticket price.
Sainsbury’s want as many people as possible to be able to come down and enjoy the day and has reduced ticket prices as follows – £30 for adults, £20 for children, under 5s go free and a family ticket is available for £90 (covering 2 adults and 2 children).
Cheryl Cole was smiling for the cameras for the first time in weeks as she tested out the theory that blondes have more fun by celebrating her 28th birthday with her X Factor replacement Tulisa Contostavlos.
Before being spotted with her new blonde locks earlier in the week, Cheryl hadn’t been seen in weeks, following her dramatic axing from Simon Cowell’s American version of The X Factor.
But as the Girls Aloud singer turned 28, she chose to come out of hiding in style, smiling for the cameras as she arrived at the Sanderson Hotel in London, where she was joined by none other than her replacement on the X Factor judging panel, Tulisa from N-Dubz.
The two singers have apparently kept on good terms after Tulisa took over Cheryl’s role on the ITV juggernaut, with Tulisa even revealing that her predecessor sent her flowers to say good luck on her first day in the job.
Cheryl’s close friend and mentor Will.I.Am also joined in the fun, despite having been evacuated from the five-star Hilton hotel earlier in the evening, after a fire erupted in the basement kitchen.
He was accompanied to Cheryl’s birthday party by Black Eyed Peas band mate Fergie, who looked casual in jeans and knee-high black boots.
Cheryl, on the other hand, was dressed up to the nines in a white sixties-style mini dress by Stella McCartney, teamed with strappy high heels and large gold earrings.
The most striking thing about Cheryl’s appearance, however, was her new hair. The former X Factor judge has been famed for her walnut brown tresses for years and fans haven’t seen her with her current honey-coloured hair since the early Girls Aloud days.
Showing off her light asymmetrical bob last night, the singer was clearly making a clean break as she partied with her A-list friends, including a few of her fellow Girls Aloud members.
Kimberley Walsh matched Cheryl’s white number with her own white wrap dress, while Nicola Roberts turned up in a typically quirky multicoloured maxi dress and some hair extensions.
Like an X Factor reject, that big blousy brunette look was never going to last the distance. So Cheryl Cole has cut her losses and gone sleek. And blonder.
The singer showed off her new hairstyle as she emerged in public for the first time since her dreams of winning over America were left in tatters.
Miss Cole, who turns 28 today and will celebrate with a £20,000 party tonight, is keen to forget the humiliation of being axed as a judge from X Factor USA after four days. A friend said she was making a fresh start – and going blonde was the first step.
The singer has sent a stylish purple and black invite to friends including her Girls Aloud bandmates Kimberley Walsh, Nicola Roberts and Sarah Harding, X Factor judges and record company executives.
The location has been kept secret so far, but reads: ‘You are invited to celebrate Cheryl’s birthday. Friday 1st July. 9pm til late. Venue to be advised.’
Second step is a little more time out. ‘Cheryl has had a long year, everything has really taken its toll. She’s taking some time to work out what she wants to do now. It’s a new year, a new look.’
Miss Cole arrived at the American embassy in Grosvenor Square, London yesterday to collect the U.S. work visa that would have allowed her to join Simon Cowell on the U.S. show.
She looked happy and healthy as she strode through the sunny London streets dressed in a black jacket, a £130 Stella McCartney vest top emblazoned with tulips, tight black jeans and towering black boots.
‘The application had already gone through from when she was doing the U.S. X Factor and it was the final date to complete it otherwise it would have to be done again,’ a source said. ‘What’s good is that now she can work in America whenever she wants – so she can still crack the States.’
When a star usually emerges with a drastic makeover it usually signals one thing – they have something to hawk.
And so, questions quickly arose when Cheryl Cole emerged from five weeks in hiding sporting a brand-new blonde bob.
Girls Aloud may be marking their 10th anniversary with a concert during London’s 2012 Olympics, it’s been reported.
Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Kimberley Walsh and Nadine Coyle are apparently in talks to appear at a landmark gig at the O2 Arena, the Sun reports.
Coldplay and The Rolling Stones have also been mooted as acts on the bill.
A source said: “The girls are getting very excited. The promoters are only looking to book massive, show-stopping acts, which they would be perfect for.”
Although Cheryl has been lined up to appear as a judge on the US version of The X Factor, even she would like to play the Olympics gig, reportedly, because it will be after her judging duties are over.
