Kimberley Walsh OK! column 02/08/11
Kimberley’s final column for OK!
I’VE been really busy promoting the Horrid Henry movie in which I play Prissy Polly.
It was the first time I’d seen the film when I went to the premiere and it was strange watching myself on the big screen but I loved it! Nicola and Sarah came along – it was lovely to have the support there. I really enjoyed making it and the children made the experience.
The younger ones were always asking me for cuddles during filming and I’d happily oblige!
This is my final column for OK!. I’ve had a great time sharing my experiences with everyone and you’ll no doubt see me in the magazine at some point soon!
Amy Winehouse – a tragic loss
I WAS shocked by Amy Winehouse’s death.
I met her a year ago at a party for the head of Universal and she was sober, drug-free and really seemed like she’d turned her life around and was in a good place. She was so lovely and friendly. I feel very sorry for her family – she was so young, talented and loving. Her dad Mitch is said to believe that Amy’s cold turkey approach to quitting the booze may have given her body a shock it couldn’t handle. Whatever happened in the final hours, we’ll probably find that it’s drugs or drink-related, whether that be from taking too many or withdrawing from them too quickly – either way it’s such a tragic loss.
Bad idea, Aisleyne
THERE’S been a backlash about Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace going on This Morning and talking about Amy Winehouse so soon after she died.
I watched her on the show and it seemed like she was more interested in clearing her name following reports that neighbours had seen the singer fall out of a taxi after a night out with Aisleyne a few days earlier, than being a friend and talking about Amy’s life, which was definitely in bad taste.
Cheryl and I went out incognito!
I’VE just had five fab days of sunbathing in LA – it was wonderful to go and chill out completely and Cheryl and I spoilt ourselves with massages and cocktails and nice meals out. We met up with Derek Hough for a catch-up over dinner and we even managed a night of clubbing, incognito. We had a bit of a dance and discovered coffee-flavoured Patrón Tequila – it makes you a nice happy drunk, so it was our girls’ holiday drink of choice!
The only thing missing was a bit of shopping, but it was too hard to organise as Cheryl Cole gets hounded out there by the paparazzi – it was terrifying. We braved them a few times but they were insanely psycho – climbing over people’s property and people had to call the police to get rid of them. It made me realise what it is like for her, I get scared for her in the madness.
It was tough to come back. LA is a such a mad world, it’s nice to dip in and out of, but I wouldn’t live there. I missed my boyfriend – and I kept getting texts with pics of my baby nephew, saying: ‘Come home Auntie Kim!’
Harper Seven’s here!
CHERYL and I were in LA when baby Beckham was born, but no, I didn’t go and visit!
The name Harper Seven is controversial but we knew they’d choose something unusual. Harper is good, but the Seven part? Kids at school might nickname her ‘Half past seven’. I’m glad Victoria got the little girl she wanted – I know she wouldn’t change her boys but a mum can share different things with a little girl. Harper will be well protected by her three older brothers – well, until she becomes a teenager and she starts to get interested in boys!
Danielle Lloyd’s baby drama
THE model Danielle Lloyd has had a tough week after she gave to her little boy ten weeks before his due date.
Her baby weighed just 4lbs 4oz at birth, he is so tiny! I am thinking of them, and of course I hope that he will go on to do well. My nephew was 6lbs at birth and like a little doll. If Danielle’s baby stays in hospital for a little while it will be hard, but she will be glad he is getting the best care. It’s difficult when they are in an incubator but think of all the cuddles to come.
Cheryl Cole’s birthday bash and preparing for another wedding
I’VE had a lovely week filled with sunshine and barbecues! I had one at mine on Saturday, the first since I moved into my new house. I love ’em, but why is it the man who always does the cooking? I’m not complaining though – they should do it more!
It was Cheryl Cole’s birthday last week – we don’t always get to see each other on our birthdays because of work so it was really nice to all get together and celebrate this year! As always she looked amazing and I love the new hair, but she’d look great with green hair, any hair!
I’m off to prepare for another wedding – this time it’s one of Justin’s oldest friends getting married. Justin is best man so I think he is more nervous than the groom because of the speech, and I’m trying to choose my fourth wedding outfit of the year – I’m churning them out! You come to a certain age and everyone is getting married or moving home or having babies. Everyone loves a wedding, though!
Crazy In Love with Beyonce at Glastonbury
I THOUGHT Beyoncé’s Glastonbury appearance was amazing.
I am absolutely her biggest fan! She’s been asked about having children recently and as we are almost exactly the same age, I can relate to her. Like Beyoncé, when I was younger I thought I’d have a child by 30 – suddenly 35 seems like a good age! I think because of her career, and especially the touring, she might want to put it off. But I am so excited for when she does have children. Just imagine the rhythm that Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s baby is going to have!
Prince Harry’s girl
I LOVE that while William has gone for a straight-laced woman in Kate, cheeky Harry’s gone: ‘Nah – I’m going to go for an underwear model!’
He always likes to push the boundaries, it makes me laugh. His new girl, Florence Brundenell-Bruce, is very attractive, and her ex Jenson Button seems nice so I’m sure she’s a lovely girl. She needs to take a big old deep breath, though, if they are going into a relationship. Now William is married there will be even more interest in him and what he’s doing. It could be quite intense.
RYAN Giggs’ name is out and what a badly kept secret that was! I think if he’d come clean at the start we’d have moved on to the next thing by now.
Personally I don’t think the public should necessarily have to be informed of everything that’s going on in people’s personal lives just because they’re public figures, but I do think that nobody, however rich or famous, should be able to buy silence, it’s money over morals! Money shouldn’t get you what you want, that’s not a good message to be putting out there, so from that respect I’m glad it’s out in the open. It was game over for Giggsy when he tried suing Twitter – that was silly, what about freedom of speech? It’s his wife Stacey I feel sorry for. She’s in an impossible situation at the moment and I understand why she’s putting on a brave face in public while she works out in private how she wants the relationship to move forward, if at all…
Jed-cases!
WHEN I saw those pictures of Jedward meeting Barack Obama, I cracked up.
It’s slightly concerning that they were able to meet the US president, though, and I can’t believe they performed their Eurovision song for him! Jedward fascinate me – they’re lovely but they’re the most bizarre people. I met them on This Morning a while ago and as they passed me in the corridor they stopped me and launched into their full dance routine, microphones and all!
Cheers, Adele!
ADELE has turned down performing at all the big festivals this year as she says she just wants to go to a park and drink cider with her mates!
She’s so successful at the moment that money and fame aren’t an issue for her so she’s earned the right to step back and relax. Don’t get me wrong, the buzz you get from playing is amazing but if she’s missing hanging out with her friends, then why not? She’s keeping it real. She also said that she doesn’t want to endorse any products, but, you never know, something might come along that she really wants to be involved in.
Kimberley Walsh column: Hanging with Princess Cheryl Cole
THE royal wedding was so emotional! Cheryl and I were at my house with a few friends and family drinking champagne and eating cake while watching it on the TV and we were all so moved. I was impressed at how composed Kate and William seemed, considering the pressure they were under!
I thought Kate looked gorgeous. Her dress was the right balance – feminine and elegant without being too sexy or fashion-forward. While the bride nailed the look, I thought the hats that the likes of Princess Eugenie and Beatrice wore were very odd perched on the front of their foreheads. It was like a new craze for the royal wedding, everyone wore them like that, but it looked bizarre to me!
Ellie Goulding got lucky singing at the reception, that’s an amazing gig to get! I was hoping they’d throw someone like Rihanna in the mix too to get the party started, although her performance might have shocked the Queen!
JUSTIN’S mum and dad came down to see our new home – they loved the place, but they were teasing us about getting started on having children to fill it up! I do get really broody, so it won’t be too far in the future. I think I would like a couple more years of working first, but Justin’s great with his daughter Chloe so I know he’ll lead the way when it does happen.
I may not be quite ready to be a mum yet, but my sister Sally is ready to burst! She’s overdue and it’s driving me mad – I think I’m more stressed than her! She’s tried every old wives’ tale to induce the labour, but nothing’s working. Her baby’s going to be an Aries, which is the same star sign as Justin – they’re notoriously strong-willed, so I’ve already told Sally that the baby’s stubbornness is starting early by not coming out! I can’t wait to be an auntie, though. I’m going to get loads of practice in with Sally’s baby and then Justin and I will be ready to go!
Steve Jones and I co-hosted The Prince’s Trust Celebrate Success Awards last week, which was fun. Cheryl was also presenting an award so we had a quick catch-up. She looks so lovely and sun-kissed fresh back from LA. We were in the line-up and Prince Charles said to us: ‘So we’ve got two of you here today!’ It was funny that he even knew that we were part of Girls Aloud, he knows his stuff!
It was scary presenting because we had the prince sitting right beside us so the pressure was on, but we threw in a few jokes about the royal wedding which luckily he laughed at! When you meet him he’s so relaxed and warm that it makes you forget those formalities. I was probably way too overfriendly because we were chatting away like we were on first-name terms! I really like him, you get a real sense of who he is – that’s important when you meet someone so powerful, he’s our future king, it’s crazy! I’ve met him three times now, so I’d like to have kissed him to greet him, but it might have overstepped the mark!
I remember Geri Halliwell pinched his bum when the Spice Girls met him but I wouldn’t do that – there’s a certain level of respect and etiquette, and I couldn’t do that in case I offended him!
LAST week I met up with Fearne Cotton – we’ve stayed in touch since we trekked Mount Kilimanjaro together and she had a new clothing range for very.co.uk so I popped along to show my support. Keith Lemon was there – he’s a right cheeky bugger! But he’s convinced me to go on Celebrity Juice this week, so tune in this Thursday to see that.
I know he’s going to be rude and crude but I’m prepared for it and I’m not too worried! Justin’s going to come and watch and so was my sister, Sally, but she’s due to give birth soon, so I think she might give it a miss just in case she goes into labour in the studio! I’m one of her birthing partners so I’ve spent a lot of time with her recently, although I haven’t been to any antenatal classes, which is a bit worrying – when it comes to the birth I think I’m going to be useless!
I’ve had a few good nights out on the town recently for friends’ birthdays. I did have a few drinks but I find it hard to let loose as there are always paps waiting! When I was younger I didn’t really care, but as I’ve got older I don’t really want to see pictures of me looking worse for wear in the papers!
