Wearing not a scrap of make-up with her hair hanging loose, the 27-year-old smiled at photographers as she picked up a coffee from her local Starbucks in Surrey.

Wearing jeans, an off-the-shoulder white jumper and lace vest, the fresh-faced singer looked thrilled to be out in the fresh air again following nearly a month in bed.

Looking noticeably fuller in the face and a healthier size compared to her increasingly skinny frame in recent months, it appeared Mrs Cole has been enjoying home-cooked meals from her mother Joan Callaghan, who has been assisting her daughter’s recovery.

Clearly in a sociable mood after so many weeks recuperating, the star was more than happy to chat to fans and pose for photographs in the coffee shop.

Mrs Cole left hospital two weeks ago to recuperate at her Surrey mansion, which she used to share with estranged footballer husband Ashley.

Brave Cheryl Tweedy is due to return to work this week after a remarkable recovery from malaria.

The 26-year-old X Factor judge, who contracted the potentially fatal disease last month, has been in talks with TV chiefs about going back to work for the first time next Friday with an interview for ITV2 spin-off show The Xtra Factor.

The interview with Xtra Factor host Konnie Huq is likely to take place in the grounds of the Surrey home that the Girls Aloud singer once shared with Chelsea and England footballer Ashley Cole.

The singer has also been in touch with boss Simon Cowell about returning to the panel in time for the Judges’ Houses stage of the competition next month.

She has been joking with the 50-year-old X Factor boss by text – warning him not to keep the best acts for himself while she is sick and fellow judge Dannii Minogue is on maternity leave.

A source close to the singer, who is currently divorcing Cole, said: “Cheryl is a fighter and this has been the fight of her life. She’s put all her energy into getting better and it looks like it’s paid off. The fact she’s cracking jokes again is a wonderful sign that the feisty old Cheryl is returning.

“Simon has told her he can’t wait to have her back on board.”

Despite her speedy recovery Cheryl still has a live-in nurse to ensure her return to health continues. She is considering ­keeping the nurse on call when she feels well enough to go back to work full-time.

The source added: “She feels better but it’s one step at a time and she thinks she would feel more confident if she had her nurse, just in case anything goes wrong.

“Her mum Joan has been waiting on her hand and foot which means she’s built her strength up with early nights, home-cooked meals and lots or rest and relaxation.”

This week Cheryl – who was rushed to hospital on July 6 after ­collapsing at a photo shoot – has been up and about watching DVDs.

On Tuesday she enjoyed a pamper day with Joan, 50, after L’Oreal – the cosmetics firm she is the face of – sent a hamper of products to her £3.5million home near Godalming.

Cheryl was warned she might need up to six months off after contracting the ­mosquito-borne disease in June while on holiday in Tanzania with a close pal, dancer Derek Hough.

She spent nearly a week in intensive care.

A friend of the star said: “Cheryl wants to raise money for mosquito nets and better medicines across the worst-affected regions of Africa. After hitting such a terrible physical low, she has come to realise just how awful the disease is and how lucky she has been to receive the best medical care.”

The 27-year-old singer – who had to pull out of the audition stages of pop star search show ‘The X Factor’ and cancelled her scheduled appearances at the V Festival in August so she can fully recover – was discharged from hospital earlier this month and is now convalescing at her home in Surrey, South East England.

Cheryl Cole’s X Factor boot camp replacement Nicole Scherzinger, has been slammed by TV presenter Stephen Mulhern who says Kimberley Walsh would have been ‘ideal’.

The Geordie judge’s malaria scare meant she had to pull out of this year’s boot camp stage. Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole had been Dannii MInogue’s stand-in judge for the Manchester auditions, which Cheryl also couldn’t make, and show bosses loved her so much they signed her up to cover for Chezza at the next stage of the talent contest.

But Magic Numbers presenter Mulhern doesn’t agree with ITV’s decision and believes his one-time 5 O’Clock Show co-host would have been better suited.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, he said: ‘Honestly I would have gone for Kimberley Walsh to replace Cheryl over Nicole for boot camp.’

‘She’s more like Cheryl. I don’t really know Nicole but I think Kimberley would have just been the perfect pick.’

‘I did the 5 o’clock show with her and I thought she was brilliant. I think she would have been ideal. It’s interesting that they’ve gone for Nicole. But we shall see how it turns out.’

But Kimberley doesn’t need to fear as she recently landed her own TV show Suck My Pop on Viva co-hosting with Will Best.

This will be the first time she has had her own official presenting role after co-presenting the 5 O’clock show with Mulhern last month.

There must have been magic in the water on the tea-time show though as Stephen also landed his own primetime show on ITV.

Kimberley Walsh doesn’t want to work on ‘The X Factor’ without Cheryl Cole.

The Girls Aloud singer – who has previously joined her bandmate by mentoring contestants on the reality show, and helping her decide who should go into the final – admits she won’t be stepping in to replace Cheryl on the judging panel while she takes time out from the show to recover from malaria.

She said: “‘The X Factor’ was great when I did it with Cheryl because we’re friends and we had similar opinions, but it would feel weird to do it without her.”

The 28-year-old singer recently landed a presenting slot of her own, on new music show ‘Suck My Pop’ for digital channel Viva.

The Girls Aloud star, who is home at her Surrey mansion recovering from the deadly disease is said to have refused to deal with the legal papers and has ordered that she participates in ‘nothing stressful’ until she is well again.

However, it seems that anything related to the Chelsea footballer is seen as ‘stressful’ to Chezza, as she has allegedly been ignoring doctors orders by working from her sick bed – but will NOT deal with anything to do with her imminent divorce or her estranged hubby.

A source told Now magazine: “This means the divorce is being stalled and could take even longer to go through.”

“Why she’s refusing to deal with it, yet is still liaising with her management about her schedule and texting people like Simon Cowell about X Factor, has become a bone of contention with her family.”

They added: “Her mum Joan is absolutely beside herself. She knows Cheryl finds the divorce stressful. After all, she’s run down because she overworked herself in the first place 
in an attempt to block it out.”

“But Joan says the avoidance tactics need to stop. She thinks her daughter should get this process through as quickly as possible, so she can start healing. Ashley’s presence is a burden to the entire family.”

Meanwhile, Cheryl is said to be worried that she will never sing again after losing her voice for five days when battling the mosquito-carried virus.

“Cheryl must be feeling really down,” Mollie said. “It’s horrible for anyone to miss out on work but especially with her as she’s going through a real high point of her career right now.

“At least with me, I had the rest of The Saturdays to carry on as we have a new single and new album to promote,” King then added to the Daily Record. “With her, everything has to stop.

“I just want to tell her to get better soon and hang in there. All of The Saturdays wish her better and hope she can recover as soon as possible.”
