Nicola Roberts fronts Alder Hey’s Clothes Throw

Nicola Roberts is the face of this years Alder Hey’s Clothes Throw campaign.

The fundraiser sees supporters throw clothes swap parties to raise funds for the West Derby hospital’s charity the Imagine Appeal.

Nicola said: “I am really excited to be fronting the Clothes Throw 2011 campaign.

“There are three ways you can help with the Alder Hey Clothes Throw – donate clothes, hold your own Clothes Throw party or attend any of the official Clothes Throw events in Liverpool ONE.

“Everyone can help by finding something in their wardrobe they no longer wear and donate it. I’m an avid supporter of the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal. I visit Alder Hey and the patients there really touch my heart.”

An official week of Clothes Throw events kicks off in October at Liverpool ONE’s Palm Sugar bar. There will also be a pop-up Clothes Throw shop in a secret Liverpool ONE location.

The week boasts a series of glitzy catwalk shows, fashion workshops and gives supporters the chance to buy some amazing clothes.

Senior fundraising manager for Alder Hey Imagine Appeal Chris Done said: “To have the support of Nicola Roberts and Liverpool ONE is amazing for us.

“They are the perfect partners to help us expand the Clothes Throw. Alder Hey is the first choice provider of care for more than 80% of the UK’s healthcare commissioners and we are responsible for the health of more children than any other UK hospital.

“We hope the whole of the UK will get behind us and we’d love to see Clothes Throw parties popping up all over the country. Every pound and penny raised from the event will go directly to the Alder Hey Imagine Appeal.”

Go to www.theclothesthrow.com or visit the Liverpool ONE information centre.

Cheryl Cole lends support to brain tumour patient

NORTH East singer Cheryl Cole has lent her support to a fundraising appeal in aid of a young brain tumour patient.

The Newcastle-born pop star has donated a selection of signed memorabilia to nine-year-old cancer sufferer Brandon Ballance, in a bid to boost a charity drive to take him on a dream trip to swim with dolphins in America.

The former X Factor judge’s gesture comes just five weeks before Brandon flies off to Florida to fulfil his lifelong wish following a major campaign started by his devoted mum Sarah Nicholson.

Sarah from Amble, in Northumberland, has managed to raise almost £17,000 in her bid to “make Brandon smile again”, after almost seven years of harrowing medication and hospital stays.

The 33-year-old says she is “overwhelmed” by the latest donation, which includes a CD of Cole’s latest album, Messy Little Raindrops, two photographs and a huge poster, which are all signed: “Best wishes, Cheryl Cole”. Single mum Sarah is set to sell the autographed items on the internet and hopes they will help her raise the additional cash needed “to give Brandon the best possible experience” overseas.

“We just can’t believe it. I’m absolutely overwhelmed by it,” said Sarah, also mum to four-year-old Sienna, who launched an appeal to take Brandon on his dream trip in The Journal earlier this year.

She added: “It’s amazing to think that our appeal, which started as something so small has grown beyond our expectations and the fact that a celebrity has now donated something to Brandon’s Wish Fund is just fantastic.”

Brandon was diagnosed with a growth on his brain when he was aged just two. Since then he has endured course after course of chemotherapy.

Cheryl’s ASOS auction raises £58,000 for charity!

If you were one of the lucky few to get your mitts on Cheryl Cole‘s cast-offs, Grazia Daily is seriously jealous. Not only are you now the proud owner of a part of TV history but you’ve raised an EN-ormous amount of cash for charity too. Bravo you!

Alternatively, if you don’t have a clue what we’re harping on about, let us remind you. Back in June, ASOS teamed up with our Chez to auction off the dresses she wore during her time as an X Factor judge. From Giles Deacon to Julien Macdonald, the pop princess’ wardrobe offered a total of twenty – yes, TWENTY – show-stopping glad rags. And guess what? The auction was a storming success (no surprises there then).

After running for two weeks, with one new release on each week day of the sale, a grand total of – drum roll please – £48,000 was raised with an additional £10,000 being donated to The Prince’s Trust by the ASOS Foundation. Wowee. The money will be distributed to help disadvantaged young people in the North East of England (the Geordie’s homeland, obvs) PLUS funds were raised through text entries with, rather brilliantly, the LOWEST bid per lot winning the item. Aww, how we heart our ASOS pals.

So we say well done one and all – you deserve a big pat on your Chezza-esque backs.
