Kimberley Walsh Won’t Persue Solo Career
Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh has said she will not persue a solo pop career.
The ‘Shrek: The Musical’ star’s bandmates Cheryl Cole, Nadine Coyle and Nicola Roberts have all released albums away from the five-piece girlband, with Sarah Harding reportedly in talks with a number of labels about following suit.
However, despite teaming up with Aggro Santos for his Top 10 hit ‘Like U Like’ last year, Kimberley has insisted that the only music career she’s interested in is as part of the band.
“It’s nice some of the girls have explored their passions through their solo albums but it’s not something I’m looking to do,” she told Metro. “I’m happy following my own ventures. I love performing, I love acting and presenting. I want to do other things.”
She also added: “What I’ve achieved musically with the girls is amazing and I’m happy with that. I applied for Popstars because I wanted to be in a group.”
Asked about the Girls Aloud reunion plans for 2012, she teased: “That would be telling. I’ve read a lot of speculation, which hasn’t been accurate. We’ll tell everyone in good time.”
Kimberley recently joined Twitter after bowing to “peer pressure” from Cole and Roberts.
Cheryl Cole admits she’s ‘had enough’ and doesn’t care what people think
She launched her solo career over a year ago with the energetic floorfiller Fight For This Love.
But it appears Cheryl Cole isn’t feeling quite so feisty anymore, declaring she’s ‘had enough’ after a difficult 2010.
The X Factor judge, 27, admits her self-esteem was so low last year, she can’t bear to look at photos of herself.
In an exclusive new interview with Elle magazine, Cheryl reflects on the past 12 months, which saw her divorce husband Ashley, fight a battle with malaria and controversy on the last series of X Factor.
She tells the publication: ‘I have taken so much s**t, I’ve stopped listening to other people. I have had enough.
‘There’s only so much you can cope with and then you either allow it to swallow you up or you say, “Sod this”. I have had it with negativity and bitchiness.
‘I want people to like my music but I couldn’t give a s**t about what they think of me. Take it or leave it. I do not care.’
Osbourne slams Cheryl’s chances of US X Factor success
Sharon Osbourne has cast doubt on Cheryl Cole’s chances of making it big in the US and said Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger would be better for US X Factor.
Sharon, 58, said: ‘Cheryl’s perfect for England – she’s the nation’s sweetheart and they absolutely love her.
‘But over here [in the US] it’s Nicole’s town. You have to think of the audience and most of them would never have heard of Girls Aloud.
‘Nicole’s great TV, has a huge following here in the States and people absolutely love her. Plus she’s beautiful and talented.’
Meow!
But the former X Factor judge did not rule out 27-year-old Cole’s chances completely, telling Now magazine: ‘It takes a long time to make it in the States because it’s so huge. I think she’s made the right decision to move out here. She couldn’t just come over and do a show then pootle off.’
Referring to Cheryl’s close friendship with Simon Cowell, Sharon added: ‘She probably looks at him as the father figure she never had. Simon absolutely adores her and you can tell that by the way he looks at her.
‘Cheryl reminds me of Bambi. She’s got these big, brown, beautiful eyes and you just want to stroke her.’
She said Cowell liked to be surrounded by young, pretty women, adding: ‘I think Simon needs his young girls beside him, like Nicole Scherzinger. If you were king of the world like he is, would you want ugly women around you? He’s not going to want someone with no teeth and psoriasis – that’s why he has beautiful girls around him.’
Sharon has been linked with a judge’s role on Britain’s Got Talent but said: ‘There’s been talk but not from Simon. I’d be there in a heartbeat.’
It looks like Kimberley Walsh is about to step into the style void left by her Girls Aloud band mate Cheryl Cole if the X Factor takes Cheryl to the States. Like Cheryl, Kimberley has been trying to establish herself as a TV presenter since Girls Aloud announced they were on a break last year.
And also like Cheryl, who works with L’Oreal Elnett hairspray, luscious locked Kimberley is working with the Schwarzkopf Supersoft haircare range on their new shampoos.
When Very met Kimberley at the British Fashon Awards, after we had complimented her outfit she revealed that we’re going to see a lot more of her on the TV screen in 2011.
But as well as the light-hearted pop stuff, Kim has planned a couple of serious documentaries.
“I love learning new things, so if I can combine that with work I’m really happy,” the hard-working pop star told us.
Kimberley also revealed she would be supporting Cheryl every step of the way and would be attending the X Factor final, hopefully to see Cheryl achieve victory with her girl contestants.
“I love both Rebecca Ferguson and Cher Lloyd,” Kim admitted.
And talking of love, Kimberley has been with her boyband boyfriend Justin Scott for six years and there are rumours he will pop the question at Christmas.
Hopefully 2011 will be the year for a Girls Aloud wedding or three, as the girls’ band mate Sarah Harding is also settled with her DJ boyfriend Tom Crane and Nadine Coyle is engaged to American footballer Jason Bell.
Cheryl Cole ‘fears US X Factor could ruin her career’
Cheryl Cole is petrified her career could go up in flames if she were to join the US X Factor, it has been reported.
The 27-year-old allegedly signed a £3million deal with Simon Cowell’s new show to be a judge but now she is fearing the transition between the British show and American could be too much for audiences to handle and could see the downfall of her career.
In addition, Cowell recently expressed his concerns that Chezza’s Geordie accent will limit her abilities to be understood by an American audience.
And it seems she has the same fears as a source told Star magazine: ‘Cheryl was thrilled to accept the offer, but she is terrified it could all go horribly wrong, and has said: ‘what if nobody likes me?’
‘She thinks being hated in a country like the US could kill her career overnight.’
Cheryl will be joining her close friend Derek Hough, 25, in the States and is so eager to make it work she is reportedly having elocution lessons to tone down her Northern accent.
‘Having elocution lessons is a real prospect for Cheryl now. She’s proud of her roots and doesn’t want to change how she speaks, but she accepts that if the Americans don’t understand her, they will quickly turn on her,’ the source added.
Nicola Roberts has reportedly signed a solo record deal with Universal.
According to the News of the World, the Girls Aloud star was offered a “mega-bucks” contract with the company and has already recorded the majority of her debut album, which is expected to be released next year.
A source said: “Everyone’s so excited about Nicola releasing her own album.
“She’s very quietly been recording in the studio for the last few months. She’s working with some great people and coming up with some great stuff.
“She’s being guided by a lot of people who have been involved with Girls Aloud in the past so it’s going to be a great record.”
The report adds that Roberts’s solo plans have made a Girls Aloud reunion even more unlikely, as her fellow bandmates work on separate projects.
Will.i.am: Cheryl’s going to be a massive success in US
It sounds like WILL.I.AM is ready to help CHERYL COLE launch her US music career.
He revealed at last weekend’s American Music Awards: “Cheryl’s going to be great in the US. I’m looking forward to her coming over. It don’t matter that she’s British – she could be Chinese, Mexican, Cantonese or whatever… she’s got great songs and looks fantastic, so that’s all that matters. She’s going to be a massive success. I’m here to look after her so she’s going to be fine.”
Will Cheryl Cole quit X Factor to focus on her music?
Cheryl Cole is on the verge of quitting The X Factor after this series to concentrate on her music career, it is thought.
The 27-year-old, who has come under attack from fans and finalists this series, is on the brink of launching her pop career in the U.S. which would mean spending more time than ever across the Atlantic, trying to break the U.S. market.
Despite her commitments to the ITV reality show, she made a 36-hour trip to Los Angeles this month, after a last-minute call from the U.S. arm of record firm Universal.
The Mail has learned that she is close to signing a U.S. record contract with the company.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell is still keen to give Cheryl a judging role on the U.S. series of The X Factor which will launch next year.
Bosses from Fox network, which will screen the show, flew to Britain last week to watch the show live for the second time this series – and to scout Mrs Cole.
A show source said: ‘Cheryl is hot property and breaking America is the next obvious step in her career, whether she does The X Factor or not.
Simon adores Cheryl and has told friends it is a “good bet” she will be joining him, but he has to persuade the Fox executives.’
She had been thinking of making this her last series of the ITV show so she could concentrate on starting a family with her husband Ashley, before they divorced, it was thought.
Last night, a source close to Mrs Cole said: ‘We have not yet started talking about the next series.’
