Nadine Coyle’s LA bar faces last orders?

The troubles of Londonderry singer Nadine Coyle seem set to continue in 2012 as her US dream business venture faces the threat of closure.

Singer Nadine Coyle bought the beach bar for her parents

The former Girls Aloud star, who saw her solo album flop last year, faces the new year amid threats that her Californian beachfront bar could be seized for non-payment of taxes.

The nightspot, Nadine’s Irish Mist, based at Sunset Beach, Orange County, owes close to $100,000 to the US taxman after it emerged no taxes have been paid during its existence.

The struggling Derry singer purchased the bar in 2008, granting a long-held wish of her parents, former Bogside residents Niall and Lillian Coyle.

And when it opened in time for St Patrick’s day in 2009 it received rave reviews.

In 2010 one local television station described the venue, run by Niall and which hosts traditional and contemporary music nights, as the best Irish restaurant in the LA area.

However, public records in Orange County have revealed that since its purchase no property tax has been paid.

For the year 2011/2012 the tax owed is over $18,000, with the first instalment due last month.

The second payment is due next month.

The records show a further amount of more than $70,000 is owed, including some $19,000 in fines.

Under local laws, a property is subject to sale for non-payment of taxes after five years.

Niall Coyle, the sole agent for Nadine’s Irish Mist’s parent company Charnarae, faces further troubles after its business licence was suspended for failing to supply a statement of information including documents detailing company address, directors and the nature of the business.

With its licence suspended now, though, it cannot legally operate and technically is required to close its doors, preventing it from collecting any payments due from third parties or engaging in business transactions.

The Coyles’ ailing business affairs appear to have affected their luxury lifestyle too. They have moved from the $7000-a-month rental property they acquired when they arrived in the US to a much more modest rented four-bedroom house.

Nadine Coyle’s Bar Blues

She was long tipped as the one most likely to succeed a post-Girls Aloud career. But it looks like Nadine Coyle’s next hit could be financial.

Her bar, Nadine’s Irish Mist, in Sunset Beach, California, owes the local Orange County tax authorities some $40,000 (about €31,000) – a sum that is increasing daily thanks to punitive interest rates.

And to cap it all, the Coyle family business may be operating illegally, according to Orange County officials.

It’s all a far cry from Nadine’s plans to make the bar the first in a chain of Irish bars across the United States when it was purchased in the name of her father Niall after the Coyle family moved from Derry in July 2008.

Now, public records paint a worrying picture. Tax officials say Niall Coyle currently owes them $40,451.30 and has not paid property taxes on the bar since its purchase.

The tax bill is accruing interest at a rate of 1.5pc per month, meaning the sum owed increases by $522.67 each month.

To add to the problems, the bar has received a fine of $844.60 for failing to file appropriate documents when the property was transferred into Mr Coyle’s name.

Sarah Harding’s so elegant

sarah harding kanaloaWith temperatures soaring, you’d be forgiven for peeling off the layers and pulling on your summer shorts instead.

But when Sarah Harding’s boyfriend Tom Crane hit a London night club with the Girls Aloud star last night, he seemed to have forgotten to get dressed up for the occasion.

While Sarah looked elegant in an off the shoulder maxi dress complete with silver heels, Tom looked like he had come straight from the garden in a pair of fraying cut-off denim shorts.

But it seems Sarah was not too bothered by her boyfriend’s casual look as she was pictured grinning and holding hands with Tom as she left Kanaloa night club.

Tom’s self-imposed informal dress code was enhanced by his navy shirt, which hung loosely down his front and a pair of navy deck shoes, which he wore without socks.

The Girls Aloud star, meanwhile, looked stunning in a multi-coloured floor-length dress which was split on one side up to her thigh, revealing her tanned and toned legs.

And having just returned from sun-drenched Cannes, it’s no wonder Sarah chose to bare just a little of her freshly-tanned flesh.

Sarah’s bar nominated for top award

sarah harding kanaloaSarah Harding’s bar Kanaloa is in the running for a top award, despite being open for only six months.

The Girls Aloud singer, who opened the Polynesian-themed London hotspot last November with DJ boyfriend Tom Crane and co-owners Nick House and Piers Adam, is up for Best Bar against Leslie Ash and husband Lee Chapman’s bar Juju, Mahiki, McQueen and Aquum in the London Club And Bar Awards.

“Sarah Harding and Kanaloa combined are a force to be reckoned with, regardless of the fact they are so new to the scene – however, they are up against some of the best in the business with institutions and landmarks such as Mahiki, Harvey Nichols and Juju in the Best Bar category,” said spokesperson Charlie Mason-Parson.

Kanaloa has become one of the most popular bars in the capital, with celebrities such as Zac Efron, Sugababes and JLS hanging out there.

The winners of the awards will be announced on June 7 in London.
