Angry Cheryl Cole told friends last night that she had been “stitched up” by X Factor bosses who pressured her not to pick Gamu Nhengu.
But later on the show the Girls Aloud singer accepted full responsibility for sending Gamu out of the contest and said that it was her decision alone.
She told viewers: “I 100 per cent stand by my decision. I could not be happier or prouder. Each one of my girls have done me justice.”
But privately she has revealed to pals she was told by producers to pick Madonna lookalike Katie Waissel over Zimbabwe-born Gamu at the judges’ houses stage because there were “issues” over her visa.
Last night a friend of Cheryl said: “She has been made the fall guy in all this. Her decision came down to a choice between Katie and Gamu.
“She was struggling to choose between both girls as her third act.
“But at this point producers stepped in and told Cheryl there were concerns over Gamu’s visa and that for that reason Katie was the safer option.”

Music editor James Hurley talks to Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle on her solo career, love life, living in LA and Christmas…
Kimberley Walsh has revealed how much fun she had collaborating with R&B star Ne-Yo recently.
The Girls Aloud singer filmed a duet with the Beautiful Monster hitmaker for a forthcoming Christmas special he’s doing for ITV2, set to air later this year.
“I love his music and I’ve always been a big fan so I was honoured to get to sing with him,” Kimberley wrote in her OK column this week.
“We had so much fun performing the song,” continued the 27-year-old. “He’s such a lovely guy and made me feel so comfortable, I really enjoyed myself!
“I love singing this style of music, it’s a lot more suited to my voice. Ne-Yo has so many brilliant songs – it will be an incredible show.”
It has now been confirmed that Cheryl will perform her new single ‘Promise This’ LIVE on The X Factor results show on Sunday 24th October. She will be working with her new choreographer Fatima Robinson (same as the ‘Promise This’ video) for this performance.
Cheryl will also be doing a private gig @ Grovsvenor House Hotel tomorrow after X-Factor.

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie – who became pals with X Factor goddess Cheryl Cole this summer when she was the opening act on the group’s tour – thinks her pal could soon work with some of the world’s biggest movie and music stars.
She said: “She is such a good friend. But I don’t think she has quite got her head around how big she is going to be.
“My girl really can rule the world. I have already heard crazy things like Robert De Niro wants to make movies with her and that Jay-Z wants to work with her.”
Fergie even believes Cheryl – who is rumoured to be joining the judging panel on the US X Factor when it launches next year – could reach the levels of stardom attained by pop superstars Madonna and Mariah Carey.
She added to The Daily Mirror: “Within five years we could be talking about Cheryl on the same level as we go Madonna or Mariah Carey.”
Fergie has always been a strong supporter of Cheryl’s, and pals recently claimed the bisexual star had told bandmate will.i.am – who was romantically linked to the singer after she split from soccer player Ashley Cole – she had more chance of sleeping with her than he had.
A source close to Fergie – who is married to actor Josh Duhamel – said: “Fergie has been telling everyone she’s more likely to sleep with Cheryl before will does.
“Everyone has been teasing him about his crush. But when Fergie came out with this, everyone fell about laughing.
“She’s mentioned it a few times now. And even Cheryl thinks it’s hilarious.”
Sounds like Fergie wants a role as princess in Cheryl’s royal rule of the planet!
