IF we were mad scientists and wanted to create the perfect woman that men would fall in love with and women would aspire to be, then Our columnist Kimberley Walsh would be our ideal model.
With her full sensuous lips, delicious figure and tumbling hair, Kimberley Walsh is arguably the most beautiful and sexiest of all the Girls Aloud gals.
What’s more, she’s also probably the most down to earth celeb out there too, taking everything that comes her way with a healthy pinch of salt.
So whether it be her having number singles, hosting her own MTV show or being chosen to be the face of a range of Schwarzkopf’s Supersoft shampoos, she admirably still remains feet on the ground.
Here, the 28 year old lets us into some of her deepest darkest secrets and reveals all about her naughty drawer…
So we hear you have a naughty drawer! Sounds intriguing.
Yes I have a naughty drawer full of sweets. Whenever my sisters or any of my family come to stay they go straight to the drawer – if I’ve been trying to be good and not have so many treats then the cupboard will be empty and they’re like ‘What are you doing! Where’s all the treats gone?!’ But I’m like ‘Don’t worry I’ll restock it’. You have to have it. And you know what’s so bad? My kitchen is like open plan – so I’m up and down like a yoyo wondering ‘what else is in there!’ I think if it was in a different room it might stop me because then it would be too much effort to get to!
What are we moist likely to find in your naughty drawer?
I have a bit of weakness for chocolate, especially in the winter but in the summer I get more into ice creams, which is also bad! Ice cream and chocolate I love, unfortunately, but I’m not too bad with crisps – I can take or leave them.
What sort of chocolate bar will keep you going?
I like Dairy Milk. So any variation of that is normally a winner for me to be honest. And at the moment I’ve got a bit of an obsession with Twisters, you know the ice lollies you used to get all the time when you were a kid, my freezer is stocked up with twisters and they have these mini ones as well – which means you just have more of them! You don’t just have a small one, you just end up having more than one!
Last year you climbed Mount Kilamanjaro – are you still recovering from that?
You what? After I did it I felt so exhausted and since then I’ve had quite a lot of problems with my hips because of it – so I had to rest for a while really to strengthen my joints and stuff – [laughs] I think I did myself a bit of long term damage actually! It’s fine though it was worth it. But don’t worry, I don’t need a hip replacement just yet!
You girls have been on a break recently. Do you miss touring or do you prefer your down time?
I like my low maintenance lifestyle – it is a bit wash and go, so it’s quite nice. But when I do the odd photo shoots here and there and TV stuff at the moment I do get excited about getting dressed up because its not happening every single day. By the time we took our little break we literally were like ‘ I cannot have my hair pulled again’ because its every day isn’t it so it doesn’t feel like a treat anymore. But it does again now, it’s quite nice I’m just grateful to not have to do it myself.
You mentioned a break earlier is that something that’s still ongoing?
I’m not really sure to be honest – we’re only coming up to a year in September – so once it comes around we’ll have a chat and then work out when we’re going to get back into the studio. I don’t think any of us realised we would end up all doing so much on our own. We are all enjoying exploring different things so yeah, maybe it will be a little bit longer but not too long.
So what’s gong on with the band at the mo?
We don’t know if we’re definitely going to get back together next March yet. But I think at the minute we’re enjoying what we’re doing but yeah next year, we’ll get back together and discuss proper future plans. But I guess it’s annoying for people to be waiting but the truth is we don’t know ourselves so we’re just all going with what we’re doing and enjoying it and hopefully it won’t be too long.
We bet you can’t wait to get back together.
I will get excited yeah because we do miss each other and as much as it’s crazy mayhem it is good fun and it is nice having the girls to obviously support you, it’s different being on your own. Bitter sweet, there’s good and bad to everything isn’t there?
You’ve all said that you need to be more than a pop star these day -– do you think about life after Girls Aloud?
I think, to be honest, being a pop star you always have to think of the future because it’s never ever going to last forever. I mean some people do get a really long career out of it but you can never assume that. So yeah it’s sensible to try other things. The more things that you enjoy and the more things that you can do that are still within that performance arena, the better. Because I just love performing whatever way that is and I also really like working. So although we’re supposed to be having a bit of a break I don’t want to rest too much, because I get bored [laughs]. So it’s the best of both worlds.
I take it you’re a Gleek
Yes. I do. I love the Lady Gaga episode that was funny and the Madonna episode was brilliant. Basically I think I kind of started watching thinking maybe it would be too cheesy for me but that’s kind of the beauty of it – its total escapism and enjoyable entertainment. Maybe they should have a Girls Aloud episode! That would be amazing. Why can’t they do that! There’d be so much for them to do as well with all the songs, You could completely turn them in a theatrical direction if you wanted. I think that would be amazing. Put it out there! Make it work!
Your hair has always been beautiful so it comes as no surprise that Schwarzkopf snapped you up.
I think I’m lucky because we have amazing stylists and so our hair always looks pretty good. Which obviously helps. I do look after my hair. I think for a woman one of our most important features. It is something that you are very aware of. People don’t realise that sometimes you find a shampoo you love and people keep buying the same one but it’s not actually very good for your hair, because your hair gets used to it. So if my hair is dry then ill use a more deep conditioning one like the coconut one and then another day it might feel a bit more oily then I’ll use a different one, so I think that is a good tip. And the bets thing about this range is theyuse natural extracts. The pomegranate one is really good for that, no no it’s the red berries one which has a UV protection and I used that on holiday when I was swimming and in the sun. It leaves like a film over your hair so it doesn’t get so tangled.
