Sadly, fans of the famous British girl group Girls Aloud are forced from now on to settle only with “whole lotta history” of their music together, so they should never expect “something new” anymore. Following the memorable live performance at Echo Arena in Liverpool on March 20th, 2013, as the last show of their sixth concert tour entitled “Ten: The Hits Tour”, the all-girl pop group officially announced their split.

Nevertheless, the group s commitment, gratefulness and respect for their dedicated fans in the UK should be acknowledged and saluted – back in November 2002, Girls Aloud formed live on television, in front of millions of British viewers who voted for them and ten years later, the group decided to disband in full glory, but only after performing live, for the last time together, in front of their supportive fans in the UK. Their sixth and final tour was Girls Aloud s first concert tour in four years, after “Out of Control Tour” 2009, due to a three-year hiatus.

After a little over a decade together, Cheryl Cole, Sarah Harding, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh and Nicola Roberts have decided to part ways and pursue exclusively solo careers. Cheryl Cole has been already very successful as a solo artist since 2009, when she released her first studio album entitled “3 Words”. Except for Kimberley, who currently focuses on a television and film career, the rest of Cheryl s former band mates are working at the moment on their own music albums.

Their last concert tour together, aimed at the promotion of their second greatest hits album entitled “Ten” ( released in 2012) turned out to be an unannounced farewell tour, which was presented by the famous British jewellery manufacturer Pandora and it consisted of 20 shows in the UK and Ireland. The first show took place on February 21st, 2013 at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle and until March 7th, 2013 the girls continued their tour in England, performing louder than ever in Sheffield, Birmingham (2 shows), London (3 shows) and Manchester ( 3 shows).

On March 9th, 10th and 11th the girls performed in Glasgow, Scotland, on March 13th and 14th in Belfast, Northern Ireland and on March 16th they performed for the last time in front of their Dublin fans. The girls returned to England on March 19th when they showed “something kinda ooh” , Aloud-style, to their Nottingham fans. The girls ended their tour on March 20th, when they performed “The Show” of their lifetime, marking the end of the music of a generation, whose legacy will undoubtedly live on for decades to come – that s a “Promise” from the UK s biggest selling all-girl group of the 21st century!

The girls rose to fame when they individually auditioned in 2002 for “Popstars: The Rivals”, a British television talent show, part of the “Popstars” franchise. This show was broadcast on ITV from September 2002 until December 22nd, 2002, when Girls Aloud won the competition against the boy band One True Voice for the Christmas Number One single. Needless to say that “The Sound of the Underground” had become the Christmas Number One on the UK Singles Chart.

The single, an original blend of electronic beats and surf guitar was written and produced by Brian Higgins and Miranda Cooper and it achieved a platinum certification awarded by the British Phonographic Industry for having spent four consecutive weeks as number one in the UK charts. This debut single, overwhelmingly successful not only in the UK but all over the world, is credited with reinventing the British pop music scene in the 2000s – the pop group managed to turn the “Sound of the Underground” into the sound of the mainstream pop music!

Their first studio album, “Sound of the Underground” was released shortly after their success with the debut single, in May 2003 and it is the group s only album not to be entirely produced and written by Brian Higgins and his production and songwriting company Xenomania. Brian Higgins is famous for his intensive collaboration with the girls on all their albums. These include five studio albums, two live albums entitled “Girls a Live” and “Out of Control: Live from the O2″ (available only on their official website), one remix album entitled “Mixed Up” and two compilation albums, “The Sound of Girls Aloud: The Greatest Hits” and “Ten”.

The group s second studio album, “What Will the Neighbours Say?”, released in November 2004 went double platinum in the UK and Ireland, selling almost 600,000 copies and it included five top-ten singles – “Jump”, “I ll Stand By You”, “The Show”, “Wake Me Up” and “Love Machine”. Released in December 2005, their third studio album “Chemistry” went platinum in the UK and Ireland with over 390,000 copies sold and it produced four top-ten singles – “Biology”, “Whole Lotta History”, “Long Hot Summer” and “See the Day”.

“Tangled Up”, Girls Aloud s forth studio album, released in November 2007, went platinum in the UK, selling 505,000 copies and it yielded three top-ten singles, “Can t Speak French”, “Sexy! No, No, No…” and “Call the Shots”. The group s final studio album entitled “Out of Control” was released in November 2008, it was the only album of the girls which debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart and it went double platinum in both the UK and Ireland, selling almost 800,000 copies. This album yielded three top-ten singles, “The Promise”, “Untouchable” and “The Loving Kind”. “The Promise”, influenced by the 1960s music was the group s fourth number one upon release and it earned the girls their first BRIT Award in 2009 for Best British Single. In November 2012, the girls released the official charity single “Something New” for Children in Need and it reached number two on the UK Singles Chart.

The group s accomplishments also include twenty consecutive top-ten singles in the UK, out of which four reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and two albums which reached number one on the UK Albums Chart. Girls Aloud are credited for being the “Most Successful Reality TV Group” in the 2008 and 2011 editions of Guinness World Records and they have sold over 4 million albums worldwide.

In a recent interview about the split of the group, Sarah Harding stated that although it is “a release, it s liberating”, she still feels like she s “missing a part” of her. This comes as no surprise, given the group s decade-long “Whole lotta history” together.

According to today’s papers – which we all know by now not to believe until we hear from official sources – Nadine is to set up a girlband.

‘When she was in Girls Aloud, Nadine always wanted to be the leader but it never worked out like that. By putting together her own band, she can take control and also reap the financial rewards.’ a source told The Mail On Sunday.

Nadine’s tweets were obvious that she loved being in the band again, when they reunited for the Tour, so it could be easy to think that this story is true. However, don’t get your hopes up too high until we hear more of it!

**UPDATE**

Just spotted that the story is “nonsense” and that Nadine remains “completely committed” to her second solo album.

An insider revealed: “Nadine is working on her own material, so I don’t know where this nonsense story has come from. She’s completely committed to her next album and has been working in the studio since Girls Aloud split.”

British singer Cheryl might be an international superstar, but when we met up with her one morning during the 2013 Cannes International Film Festival in the ritzy Martinez hotel, our time together was as comfortable as if we were just girlfriends hanging out. During that window– before Cheryl put on her dress and began her hair and makeup preparations for that evening’s red carpet event– we managed to talk about makeup and beauty on the inside.

CRC: What are the beauty products you cannot live without?

Cheryl: My telescopic mascara, because if you feel tired or if you look a bit rough after a long day’s work, a bit of mascara can make you feel a lot better.

CRC: Do you have any good beauty tips you would like to share with us?

Cheryl: I make sure that I wash my face every night and thoroughly moisturise because that’s when your skin rejuvenates overnight and you have all those hours of just resting and not being exposed to any elements. Don’t sleep in your make-up because it blocks your pores. Just be sensible really, take care of your skin.

CRC: What advice would you give to women to help them feel beautiful every day?

Cheryl: You can use all the make-up that you like but it comes from inside. As much as people say that’s a cliché, it’s so true. If you feel beautiful on the inside, it shows on the outside and the mascara enhances that beauty. So, you have to be happy with you, you know, which is not always easy but you’ve got to try.

CRC: What does the Cannes Film Festival mean to you?

Cheryl: It’s glamour at its highest, you know, beauty, glamour, celebratory. It’s just a really amazing thing to be a part of.

CRC: What does being a L’Oréal Paris ambassador at Cannes mean to you?

Cheryl: It means that I feel like I have a really good rapport with women from the UK, especially, and my fan base. It just means that I get to talk to them directly. And you asking me for helpful beauty tips– I love, I can share those. I’ve been in the industry for ten years now so I’ve picked up a lot of tips along the way. It’s just really a perfect relationship that I have with L’Oréal Paris, so it’s fantastic.

CRC: In your make-up bag for Cannes, what would we find?

Cheryl Cole: You will find Telescopic mascara. I also have a new colour riche lipstick. It actually says collection by me! So yeah, and you will also find tissues… cotton buds. Cotton buds are always good if your eyeliner has gone a bit wonky, a cotton bud can correct that so I always have those. Um, bronzer, I have this bronzer compact, actually, that is half light, half dark to use to contour, (in a hushed voice) I like a bit of contour. So yeah, that’s about it.

CRC: What would your perfect red carpet make-up be?

Cheryl: It depends on what you’re wearing. So sometimes if you’re dressed a certain way, I’d say you have to kind of go for the alternative. So if you’re dress is full-on, sparkles, glitz, glamour, everything, then your make-up needs to be toned down and your hair needs to be toned down because if you do too much of everything, it’s not nice. So, if your dress is simple, you can go crazy with the hair and crazy with the make-up. It really depends on what your wearing. And what you’re feeling on the day, too! Sometimes, I might just want to go crazy and have diamonds and glitz and crazy hair. And the weather’s not very inspiring today, but we’ll get there!

And get there she did.

She wrote:

“Dear @kimkardashian. Hi Gorgeous lady! Just wanted to send you a tweet to say I think you are an incredibly beautiful woman inside and out.. I can only imagine how tough it is to be heavily pregnant and feeling extremely vulnerable on top of some of the daily criticism you take! I admire your tenacity and send you my best wishes with the rest of your pregnancy #enjoyyourblessing x”

Kim was quick to respond back:

“@CherylCole your message really touched me! Thank you so much for the support & positivity! Its so important for women to feel confident & at peace during this amazing time! Your sweet tweet really made me smile! Xoxo “

Who knew Cheryl was a ‘Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ fan!

It’s been 2 months since we got news of the split, but only now is Paul O’Grady speaking out how upset he is that the girls will no longer be together as a group.

In this weeks Star magazine, Paul revealed that he that he was left “bereft” after the girls made their announcement but is very “proud” of them all for what they achieved together.

“I was bereft. I had to go to bed for a weekend. I was the same when Take That split up. But I’m so proud of every one in Girls Aloud, they’re sweethearts, Cheryl [Cole] in particular. And Nadine [Coyle] is one of my favourites”

Girls Aloud were regulars on his chat show through the years and this meant he got quite close to them, even starring in their TV Special ‘Girls Aloud Party‘ in 2008.

He also stuck up for Nadine, after recent critics claims stating shes been keeping her distance, saying “She’s got guts.”

“[Nadine] doesn’t deserve [any criticism] because when I was doing the Paul O’Grady Live shows, she sang a song she’d never heard before, live. Learnt it in half an hour and sang it beautifully!”

I assume it was when she appeared on his show for her Instiable promo and sung ‘I Put A Spell On You‘
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_6rGURdFig

He was questioned on his thoughts about the rumours of Cheryl returning for X Factor USA this year, and stated “Why would she want to do that after the first time? I think she should just leave that”.

Paul O’Grady is set to return to our screens at the end of the year, with a new chat show. So hopefully he can get some (or all!) the girls back on his show for a catch up.

Louis Walsh appeared on The Late Late Show in Ireland recently, and he still seems bitter about the Girls dropping him as a manager back in 03.

Skip ahead in the video to 1min 26secs (If you don’t you will get to hear how hes looking to make yet another boy band *yawn*)

He says hes done with girlbands and mentions Girls Aloud were hard work “because they didn’t like me and I didn’t like them.”.
He also explains that when he said Nadine was the best singer, “the others hated me immediately”.

Cheryl told us last year how he wasn’t even a manager ‘just took a cheque’.

Let the row continue :p
